Topic sentences that control
Band 7 requires a clear central topic in every paragraph — one controlling idea that every supporting sentence serves. Half of these items ask you to choose the topic sentence that genuinely covers the support; the other half ask you to catch the sentence that wanders away from it. If a sentence is true but off-topic, it still costs you.
