Reference and repetition

Above Band 7, cohesion becomes invisible: reference words like "this policy", "such fees" and "do so" carry ideas forward without the reader noticing. The traps are ambiguous pronouns, bare "this" with no noun, and forced synonyms that muddy a precise term. These items train you to manage reference — and to recognise the moments when plainly repeating the key noun is the strongest option.
