The pie chart illustrates the distribution of the world population across six regions in 2020.

Overall, Asia accounted for well over half of the global population, making it by far the largest region, while Oceania represented the smallest share. The majority of the world's population was concentrated in just two regions.

Asia was the dominant region, home to 59% of the global population, a proportion that alone exceeded the combined total of all other regions. Africa was the second largest region at 17%, and together Asia and Africa made up 76% of the world's population. Europe accounted for a further 10%, bringing the cumulative share of the three largest regions to 86%.

The remaining three regions contributed considerably smaller proportions. Latin America represented 8% and North America 5%, giving a combined figure of 13% for the two Americas. Oceania accounted for just 1%, the smallest proportion of any region in the chart. These figures highlight the pronounced concentration of global population in Asia and, to a lesser extent, Africa, relative to other parts of the world.

✅ What carries it
  • Clear overview identifying Asia as the dominant region and Oceania as the smallest before detail.
  • Accurate cumulative figures: Asia + Africa = 76%, top three = 86%, both correctly calculated.
  • Effective grouping of the Americas (13%) and isolation of Oceania (1%) to avoid mechanical listing.
  • Consistent proportion language: 'home to', 'represented', 'bringing the cumulative share', 'just'.
⚠️ What keeps it from higher
  • The final sentence borders on interpretation; phrasing it as 'these figures illustrate' rather than 'highlight' would maintain a more neutral descriptive tone.
